Extensible Rooms
Extensible rooms are one of the many features that make TTR the
premier conferencing environment. Developed and available since
Spring '96 this feature allows conference rooms to be linked together in
either a one-way or reciprocal manner. One-way links posts the message
not only to the room that the posting was entered in (room A), but in
the room that the one-way link points to (room B). Two-way links allow
messages to be posted in both rooms, when a posting is made in either
(posts to room A appear in room B and posts to room B appear in room A).
What can be done with extensible rooms? Here are a few examples:
- An interview scheduled online can have a one-way link to a second
room that could be sold in much the same manner as a Box Seat in a
concert hall. The people in the Box Seat could then hear what is
going on in the main area as if they were in that room, and they can
also hold their own conversations that are not heard in the main event
area, between themselves. The number of extensions to the main area
are virtually unlimited. The main area could be free, but there could
still be a charge for a private Box Seat.
- Another scenario might be that of a university holding classes
online. At the start of the semester all of the classrooms might be
linked so that basic instructions can be given to all of the students
at the same time, thus elminiating the need to hold the same session
in each room.
An instructor might want to have several rooms for the same class
so that the number of students in any one room is kept to a minimum.
This allows the students to converse about the subject matter in each
room while the instructor monitors the class, just like breaking up
into groups in the real world. The instructor can then
receive the postings from all of the rooms in his/her office
and respond to the questions that he/she wants to answer. The answer
would then be posted in each of the rooms along with the question.
- Or, a company could hold a stock holders meeting online using
extensible rooms. Using a 3 room setup (board room, stockholders
auditorium and press box) the event could be managed such that the
meeting could start with the stockholders auditorium and the press box
linked in a one-way manner to the board room. After the board gives
their state of the company address, they may choose to entertain
questions from just the stockholders. This can be accomplished by
disconnecting the press box and making the stockholders a two-way link.
Moderation can be added to the stockholders auditorium so that only
postings from the board could be seen. When the press is invited to
join back in, their room could be connected in much the same manner so
that questions from the press could be taken.
This scenario allows the company to keep the stockholders and the
press separate so that the press does not have access to easily
interview the stockholders. If however the company wants to have the
press receive feedback from the stockholders, the stockholders
auditorium and the press box can be linked to make interviewing
possible.
Message Box
Now you can leave private messages for any TTR member, any time of day.
This is a great way to communicate with family, friends, and business
associates who don't have e-mail accounts, or who don't want to use
their business or personal e-mail accounts.
TTR members with the Message Box Service can read their
private messages at their leisure, respond to the messages they want, and
clear old messages from their message box. A graphic icon appears by
your handle to let you know when a message has been placed in your
message box.
Personal Homepage
Create/update your own Personal Homepage with your text and graphics.
Search our directoryof homepages for your friends' homepages. (under re-construction)
Conference Transcripts
Use transcripts to create electronic documentation for an important business
meeting, to capture communication with a customer, to save a lecture, or
record an interview with a guest speaker.
Room Doorway Customization
Great for commercial use of a conference room. Place links, text,
graphics, or multi-media promotional and advertising presentations on
the doorway to your room.
